Family Law

There is never an exact cost on these matters as they depend on the individual circumstances of each matter. For example, if disputes in respect of children or finances are resolved without issuing court proceedings or dealt with by a consent order, costs will be at the lower end of the range. If however, matters are complex and there are multiple hearings, inevitably costs will be at the higher end.

Litigation dealt with by Consent

Total costs estimated for dealing with an average simple matter dealt with by consent would range from £1,500.00-£4,000.00 plus VAT depending on the level of negotiation, the drafting of the relevant order and attending one hearing.

Litigation involving multiple hearings

Total costs estimated for dealing with a complex matter requiring multiple hearings would range from £6,000.00 to over £15,000.00 plus VAT depending on the length of the proceedings.

Usual disbursements:

  • Court application fee of £263.00 (no VAT)

  • Travel expenses calculated at 0.45pence per mile and parking

Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties (in addition to our fees), such as court fees. We handle the payment of the disbursements on your behalf to ensure a smoother process.

Timescale

Depending on the urgency of an application, it will usually take up to 2 days for us to prepare and submit an application to the Court, but this is dependent on us being provided with all the information we have requested from you or any third party as well as the fee of £263. It currently takes approximately 6 months for the court to make a final order and the matter to come to an end. This is an estimate only and we will advise you if it is necessary to revise this timescale.

Disclaimer - We will be able to provide you with a more accurate quote of our fees and timescale once we have more information.

Costs associated with your applications

We do not want you to have any unwanted surprises during the course of your retainer with us, so we will give you an estimate of likely costs and disbursements before you decide to instruct us. Broadly speaking, we will agree a fixed fee with you but if your matter is more complex or it is difficult to know what will be involved, we may agree an hourly rate with you. We know that every transaction is unique, so we will keep you informed if we identify any additional work which will need to be done in order to successfully conclude your matter. Our fees range from £1,000 plus VAT for a British Naturalisation application to £2,000 plus VAT for an Indefinite Leave to Remain application.

What are disbursements?

Disbursements are charges which we will pay on your behalf when submitting an application to the Home Office. These costs are fixed by the third-party supplier and we cannot influence them.

How long will it take?

Generally speaking, an application with the Home Office should take approximately 6 - 8 months to be determined.
